EDLD 550. SUPERVISING, ANALYZING, AND IMPROVING INSTRUCTION. (Credit, 3 hours). This course is concerned with the improvement of classroom instruction. Special emphasis is placed on teaching and learning; profile of students; classroom management, assessing student learning; profile of students, assessing the changing school climate and culture. In addition the key issues in supervision will be investigated as well as the role of the supervision in helping teachers plan instruction.

335. THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES TO SUBSTANCE
ABUSE TREATMENT (Credit, 3
hours). Designed to help students develop skills
required to render professional guidance to
abusers of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
Students will be trained to assist clients in gaining
insight into their addictive disorders as well as
learn to overcome those behaviors in order to
maintain a drug-free life style. In addition, students
will become familiar with detoxification
management programs and relapse prevention.

NURS 416B. Transitions to Professional Nursing (3 Credit Hours).
Explores Nursing in today's evolving health care system, history and social context of nursing, pathways to rpofessionalis, ethical/legal issues, and the role of the professional nurse.

478. WORKPLACE VIOLENCE (Credit, 3
hours). Students will consider causes of workplace
violence such as a job threat, lack of dispute-
resolution skills, mental illness, general life
stress, and substance abuse, including violence
as a cultural norm. Behavioral topologies will be
compared to most recent use of personality profiling,
ethics, the nonviolence paradigm, building
values into the organization, paranoid
organizations, creation of organ-izational violence,
and analysis of healthy organization.
Prerequisites: CRJU 310, Junior standing.

234. ABUSES AND ADDICTIONS (Credit, 3
hours). An introductory course in abuse of drugs,
polydrug use, crime, and violence. History of drug
abuse, and its pharmacology. Numerous explanations
of drug abuse: physiological, psychological,
and sociological. Treatment and prevention. The
business of drugs: local, national and international
trafficking; money laundering; politics and
narco-terrorism. Prerequisite: CRJU 202.

SMED 799. ADVANCED RESEARCH. (Credit, 3-15 hours). Research for doctoral students before admission to candidacy. Designed for students in the doctoral program who have successfully completed 80 percent of the doctoral level courses. Students will develop a proposal and focus on the scholarly investigation of a research and/or dissertation topic. Not open to students who have already been admitted conditionally.
